One of the highlights of Joss’s attending B’nai Emunah Preschool is that he’s gotten to take Hebrew classes and learn about Jewish customs. Particularly holidays. This year, Passover lasts from the evening of April 8 to the evening of April 16. So last Friday, they sang Passover songs in the Shabbat service. Earlier, his Hebrew teacher, Emily Smith, read a…

I finally stocked up on canned fruits and veggies this past weekend. It’s a relief to know that I can put off going back to the grocery store for longer but still get some of those essential vitamins! (For advice on grocery shopping and cooking during Coronavirus, read Natalie Mikles’ article here.) Another thing I’ve been trying to stock up…

No doubt like many of you, last week I became a work-from-home parent whose kid is out of school! It’s “the new normal.” So I’ve been trying to figure out a balance between working and entertaining Joss. To be honest, not a day has gone by that he hasn’t said, “Mom, you don’t love me.” At least once. This is…
The reality of the “new normal” in the world is still impossible for me to process. The past week has been something I would have never imagined. Please note that I do not watch any TV shows pretty much over a PG rating. So many friends mention shows they have watched the TV-show versions of what we are experiencing. Yet…

I’ve always felt fortunate to live about a mile from my grandson, so close I often ride my bike to his house. I have always felt sorry for my friends who live halfway across the country from their grandkids and, therefore, see them less frequently. As the Coronavirus rapidly escalates, that mile between my grandson and me might as well…
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused millions of families across the globe to adjust to a new normal, however temporary. With school out temporarily and millions of parents across the country working from home, many parents are shuffling their lives around to adapt to a new reality of daily life. Maintaining structure in this challenging time is important for a number…

Rain and Coronavirus fears can dampen spring break spirits, but why not make the best of it. Maybe it’s the week to embrace the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced hoo-guh): spend quality time with family, try not to stress, wear your jammies all day, make some comfort foods – do whatever it is that makes you feel warm, cozy and…
When you’re a parent, life is basically a nonstop train of potentially worrying things. It starts from the first moment you find out you’re going to have kids and you start worrying about whether you’re taking the right prenatals or the potential impact of the margaritas you had that may or may not have been before you conceived even though…

There’s a reason the show “Kids Say the Darndest Things” has had so many renditions, beginning with Art Linkletter’s version in the late ’40s until 1967 and continuing with different hosts until the recent cancellation. Kids do say the funniest things! In my opinion, children hit the peak of their comedic careers at three and four years of age when…

Anyone who has lived in Oklahoma very long knows that snow isn’t a common sight. Every year, we go through the same dance: two, maybe three times each winter, we pin our hopes on the chance of a well-hyped snow, dutifully gathering our bread and milk as society demands, and then complain about the disappointment on social media when a…

Some of my earliest memories are of curling up on the sofa with my mom to watch some of her favorite shows in syndication: The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and Star Trek. We were devastated when that thing happened to Spock in the movies and elated when that other thing happened, and we watched Star Trek IV: The One…
First, a disclaimer. This was supposed to be a post full of adorable pancake art that anyone could do. I Googled images of “cute pancakes” and “animal pancakes,” and the results looked so simple, I thought, “I can totally do this.” Fast forward to a Sunday evening that found me fretting over lumpy batter, a deep stack of odd-shaped pancakes…
